Update 4 – 17 July 2025
We want to keep you informed of the latest developments at London Gateway following several system issues that have impacted port operations this week.
Yesterday the port experienced a systems issue which caused delays to both collections and deliveries. VBS (Vehicle Booking System) tolerances were extended to prevent expired bookings while Systems Engineers worked to resolve the issue.
As of the latest updates, the technical issue has been resolved and Operation Stack has been lifted. However, delays continue as the port works through the resulting backlog. VBS tolerances remain extended to help minimise disruption.
We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with the port and our transport partners. We will provide further updates should the situation change or if surcharges are implemented.
Thank you for your continued patience. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss tailored support, please reach out to dedicated contact at Ligentia.
Update 3 – 10 July 2025
Following ongoing monitoring of the operational performance at London Gateway Port this week, we’ve seen some encouraging improvements in operations in the last few days.
After positive discussions with our strategic transport providers this morning, we have managed to avoid the previously advised emergency surcharge at this time. As a result, we will pause the introduction of this charge for our customers.
However, please note that this situation remains fluid. Should port performance deteriorate again and our transport providers begin to incur additional costs, the surcharge may be introduced with limited notice.
We are keeping port operations under constant review and will reassess the situation over the next few days and weeks. We remain committed to transparency and will provide another update as soon as further clarity is available.
For now, no surcharges will be applied, but we ask all customers to be aware that this remains a possibility if disruption returns.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how this may affect your shipments, please reach out to your account manager or our customer success team.
Thank you for your continued understanding.
Update 2 – 9th July 2025
Landside operations at the port remain under pressure due to persistent system outages, power failures, and equipment breakdowns that took place last week.
In many areas, automated stacking cranes (ASCs) are now operating manually, significantly slowing down container movements. This has been compounded by over 200 rail failures in recent days and a recent derailment on site.
Impact on haulage and surcharges:
Haulage providers are facing severe delays due to a lack of available VBS slots, extended turnaround times, and restricted access to the quay during daily Operation Stack procedures.
As a result, some haulage providers have confirmed they will introduce surcharges from 14th July to reflect the increased time and cost involved in servicing the port. Haulage providers are also requesting greater flexibility with delivery windows. Where deliveries are turned away due to timing, full wasted journey charges may apply.
Customer Guidance:
We’re actively monitoring the situation and maintaining close contact with the port and our partners. While we hope to see improvements soon, previous assurances have yet to result in meaningful operational recovery.
We’ll continue to keep you informed and are here to support you through this disruption. If you have any questions or would like to discuss alternative arrangements, please don’t hesitate to contact our customer success team.
Update 1 – 1 July 2025
London Gateway has been experiencing ongoing terminal system issues since last week. As a result, the port was forced to close operations from 14:00 to 15:00 today, significantly reducing available VBS (Vehicle Booking System) slots.
Immediate Impact
- Limited Slots: Due to the hour-long closure, VBS capacity is constrained.
- Next Available Slot: The earliest open booking is at 20:00 tonight.
Customer Guidance
- If you have a booked slot between now and 20:00, expect potential delays, please adjust your haulier plans accordingly.
- For urgent rerouting or alternative port options, contact your Ligentia operations or account manager.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
